I ended up at this point in my life by staying true to what I love. I have been dancing since I was a young girl and have enjoyed every minute of it. There is so much freedom in being able to escape the day to day grind by letting it all go to some good music.
I began my career as a Physiotherapist Assistant. I graduated in 2004 from CDI College and was hired to work with a company by the name of Active Health Management. I was working with seniors in several different long term care facilities in the Niagara region from 2004-2008. While working for the company I had the pleasure of introducing an exercise program to the various homes and I was running group exercise classes 2x/week at each home. I had a lot of fun and I enjoyed going to work everyday knowing I was making a difference in people’s lives.
In 2008 I completed a 2 year home study program as a Relaxation Therapist to further enhance my knowledge base. I graduated with highest honors, an accomplishment I am very proud of. In 2008 I started my own business with my husband helping people to lose weight and feel better about themselves. I have always been one who is big on continuing their education. I love to learn new things, especially when I get a chance to share what I have learned with others.
In 2009, I was introduced to ZUMBA! I took a class and was hooked instantly. This was something that I was able to do and incorporate it into everything I had been working with for the past 5 years. Not only does this help people lose weight but it also gives them a sense of purpose and desire in their life. The program is just so valuable to me and everyone who tries it. I took the certification workshop in June of 2009 in Winnipeg Manitoba because all the workshops in Ontario had been sold out!
In January of this year, I continued my education with the ZUMBA program by taking the Zumba Gold certification workshop. This program is particularly special to me because I am able to once again work with seniors, which is where my whole career began! I love teaching Zumba to seniors. I love watching their smiles as they become so encompassed in the music and the dancing that everything else just melts away. I know that I have found something I can spend the rest of my life doing. This is more than a career to me. This is my passion and I am thankful everyday to be able to live my dreams and be able to share my passion with others.
